This title couldn't be more perfectly fulfilled than by Esposito's text. Just what you would think; it gives the big picture for architecting while being detailed enough to teach.I read this after reading Calderon and Rumerman's Advanced ASP.NET AJAX controls, and wow does the extra quality in this text really show through when looking at two titles in this same area of study.This text really clarifies. It does a great job of separating ASMX from WCF, while still showing the similarities. It does a great job at reviewing JavaScript just as needed to launch into the MS AJAX Library, and it flows nicely in a great personal tone without being unprofessional in the writing.Definitely the first book to grab if you are interested in how AJAX has come to be a force in the world of the web (even, perhaps, if you are not specifically ASP.NET-centric), and more importantly, what to do about that force.It is one of those books where you think, "Without this information/knowledge I was something of a fool and just didn't know it Good thing I was at least smart enough to get and read it!"I may update this posting when I have completed the text, but I have read in it significantly, and it just keeps getting better.

Dino is a well respected author and developer. I have read at least five of his books. They range from old school ADO.NET to architecting web applications for the enterprise (highly recommend that read). This book is well written and organized. The content is heavy on the front end as the title suggests. You will explore the kludgy innards of JavaScript. jQuery and many Ajax approaches are also considered. In addition, Dino puts his own personal spin on patterns and processes.The book starts very well with a background in the Ajax surge. It then jumps into the client side, patterns, binding to the client and ends with RIA's. Overall this is solid and I recommend the read if not quick skimming after the fifth chapter.However, .NET 4.0 is right around the corner. The client side bindings, more jQuery integration and updated Microsoft Ajax JavaScript libraries will change a lot of how this book approaches Ajax. Therefore, its an interim book for those not looking to move to 4.0 and live in at least the 3.5 world for the foreseeable future.It delves into Silverlight a bit and. But has no mention of the ground swell of popularity that is ASP.NET MVC and its fairly elegant Ajax approach. One of the highlights is Dino's insight into the pros and cons of partial rendering vs. full scale asynchronous approaches. I have been on an enterprise application where we had to implement the former. He nailed the reasons why.Read this book if you want a good background in current technologies that are changing at the speed of light. It won't be a gold source for later pick up and review though.

If you have nothing to do, still don't read this book. Really doesn't tell you anything about how to DO AJAX, just another copy paste from other materials into this book. You could learn more from the internet, and your neighbor then reading this book.

I am a Senior .NET Developer for SSN and I think this book is total ****! I am sorry, some ideas from it are cool, but I buy books to see useful examples of all the why's and how to's, and if you are like me, you will find this book useless. I read the book in a weekend and I didn't learn anything worthwhile.

The content is written well, and the author knows his stuff, but whoever made the decision to go with such a blah design swung and missed on this one. AJAX has been one of the 'hot' terms in computers for a half decade now, and the market has lots of material on the subject. People hear 'AJAX' and not only do they expect to get the steak, they want some sizzle to go along with it. This book provides no sizzle. Lack of color and design sex appeal hurt the overall product. Many people will say "who cares what it looks like" but for this type of subject matter, I don't want the layout that comes with an Assembly or C book, I want that web design PIZAZZ and it's just not there.Pick this up if you are an AJAX developer who is looking to grow your skillset. If you are just a casual developer looking for AJAX references in the store, no doubt you might walk right by this title. Good enough, but it could be better.**** RECOMMENDED

If you are looking for a AJAX how-to book then this is not the book for you. You have to go through a lot of text to find the development material. Its all theory. Not a single program in its entirety but small functions in lot of text. This book detail about the history, need and architecture. Not for people looking for code samples.

Most of the Ajax and JavaScript books focus on implementation and that's a good thing. However those books do not describe how Ajax fits within an architecture of an application. This books captures it succinctly. I also recommend author's other book "Microsoft .NET: Architecting Applications for the Enterprise"

As an owner of one of these cars I pre-ordered and greatly anticipated this new book. It has some very interesting information about Ferrari and the cars in the title as well as many variants. Unfortunately there are many factual inaccuracies which is a shame as the 308 community as a whole was looking forward to an authoritative book to use as a helpful reference. A good read for anyone just interested in this great series of cars from a bygone era.

A must for the Ferrari 3-8 collector

decent book from a general information standpoint. paper quality seems a bit "iffy" though. for the price its a good buy.

I felt that author just share his thought about it but I really would not believe this book were written by a specialist in this field.4. Just expatiation how important are relationships between client (I haven't seen the word customer here) and service provider.

My perspective is that every customer of these services should read this book and reflect on how their approach may be hindering accomplishing their goals. Adopting the author's recommendations to prepare for success and negotiate contracts based on market-relevant standards will measurably improve the success of your outsourcing agreements.Many providers of outsourcing services contribute to the problem by taking extreme negotiating positions protecting their interests. They explain this position be pointing to the buyers extreme positions and the need to have something to give. The result of this is an ugly negotiating dynamic that destroys value and damages the relationship. If outsourcing providers would also adopt the author's recommendations negotiating would expedited and not only would the benefits of the relationship begin sooner, but the relationship would generate greater value.

This is the first book by Anthony DeMello that I devoured. (I am one of those people who devours books.) I found his take on spirituality to be so engaging that I began reading others. Now, I'd have to say that Anthony and I are friends. Using aspects of both eastern and western spiritual traditions, Anthony invites us to awaken in much the same way that Buddha and Jesus sought to awaken their followers to reality.

Wow - I had the great joy of attending a two day seminar in St Louis by Friday Tony DeMello in St Louis during the academic 1983-84 year at SLU. Fr DeMello lectures were a real awakening in my life. I heard the seminar this book is based upon so many years ago and I get to experience it again. A PRACTICAL guide if they're was ever one though for me CONTACT WITH GOD is my favorite DeMello book. ,

With humour and clean statements, we are all offered a choice of method to handle the world and our troubles with it. Every reader has the chance to find that polished diamond among the anecdotes and answers. Most may find something of value. I had a blast reading this and I recommend it with the best of intentions - because some trasures become more when shared!

This book contains concrete advice which, when consistently put into practice, can reduce or eliminate anxiety, depression, anger, etc. Although the author is a Jesuit, he takes the wisdom of several other religions and applies them with no trace of religious bigotry.

Only get this book if you're willing to be challenged.

Ethereal Squadron, by Shami Stovall, is an excellent work that I would recommend heavily to anyone interested in military or historical fantasy. The setting is World War I (the Great War), but with a secret magical components as well. And this book captures the “feel” of its World War I settings very well, with numerous historical details and great linguistic nuance to really bring home the era, as well as a general dark, gritty feeling that complements the era. The mages are “special operatives”, and a lot of the story takes place in iconic WW1 settings, like a blimp or a merchant ship fighting a u-boat, with some great action and drama that really kept me on the edge of my seat. Just getting from point A to point B was an adventure, and really put me in the mood to read more WWI novels. The strongest aspect, however, aside from the alternate historical setting, is the characters. Each character is a well realized individual, with different personalities, goals, responses, and abilities. Numerous characters, from lead characters like Geist, a troubled warrior unsure of her place but determined to do the right thing, to minor characters like Tinker, with his manic, almost mischievous personality, to villains like the insane Faulkner or the nearly unstoppable and egotistical Prince Leopold, populate this book. Most are quite memorable, and it makes there interactions and competition all the more fascinating. Personally, loveable and relatable characters are what make a story for me, and when I like a cast I’ll follow them anywhere. That’s how I feel about the Ethereal Squadron. You could follow them anywhere and it would be a great time. Without going into spoilers, some don’t make it, but you really feel for the ones who go, like you’ve lost a personal friend. The emotion hits you hard. And this book is permeated by a seriousness that makes you generally worried about characters and aware of the horrors of war without getting too dark or too intense, which is just perfect. Additionally, it has strong themes of duty and loyalty, especially in the face of adversity to body and soul, which was great. It felt like a group of brothers-in-arms who would have each other’s back no matter what. Stovall is an excellent author, and I look forward greatly to both this sequel and any other works she may put out.

***No Spoilers, you’re welcome***Some people are finnicky eaters, but I am a finnicky book enjoy-er.That being said, this book was #EnjoyAble and a very emotionally satisfying read. Ethereal Squadron has everything I look for in a book: well-developed plot, characters I resonate with, friendship, kick-ass action and intermittent profanity. I don’t like including spoilers in my reviews, and I am being purposefully vague, but let me just say, this book was so good it almost made my brain explode. I #HighlyRecommend. If you’re the author and you’re reading this comment, and you need a new best friend, let me know.

I've never really been into reading historical fiction, especially not about WWI. But this story took it to a whole new level that made me feel like I was reading about a completely different war! Supernatural WWI soldiers? What's not to love? Rather than the cliched, overused, super strong heroes, the "powers" Stoval uses, gives her Ethereal Squadron a fresh and unique feel. No spoilers, but the powers will definitely entertain you!The plot is strong and cohesive, and the writing is top notch. For me, the characters are what makes the story though. And Stoval doesn't disappoint! I was totally lost in the story and found myself rooting for the main character, Geist, to get what she wants and win her battles. The supporting characters also drew me in and, thought they don't all make it out, this is war after all, the time I spent with them was well worth the pain of losing them.I hope to see more of this story, and others from this author. I highly recommend Stoval's work to anyone looking for a meaningful way to spend a few hours lost in another world!

Reading this book, I was continually struck by the skill of the writer. The revelations were well-paced, so you never felt frustrated or lost. The characters were all distinct personalities, so that it was easy to remember who was who. The tension was always high without inducing hopelessness. The romantic subplots felt real, the feelings familiar rather than routine. All of these are signs of excellence in craft. I found the book difficult to put down, and I am sure you will, too.

The story takes place in World War I, but with the added twist of some people being able to use magic. The magic system is well thought out, giving unique abilities and adding unique challenges to wartime missions. The story is original, with compelling characters, and was very enjoyable from start to finish.

I purchased this on whim. It was fast moving. The writing allowed me to imange the pictures in my head.

Ethereal Squadron starts in a hail of bullets and doesn't stop. The main character, Florence Cavell, dresses as a man so she can use her powers to fight in World War 1. It's 1916, and to be discovered as a woman, is to be sent home. It makes for some very interesting situations. The magic system is well thought out, the characters multi-layered and intriguing, their powers awesome. The history is spot on, but don't let that deter you from a fantastic read with action, magic, humor, and a little bit of romance. I can't wait for the next book to come out!

I bought the hard cover based on one review that said the photos couldn't be enlarged. I should have gone with my instincts to try the digital version first The paperback is a fine little book to carry in a pocket as a reference. The book (either format) is good for those who understand how to handle watercolors. It's packed with good little refresher (and refreshing) ideas, but primarily shows finished pieces. Information about which colors and brush sizes were used is given. Sizes of the actual paintings and paper are also provided in both inches and centimeters. There is some instruction given, a lot more than might be expected in something this small, buty I feel readers should know some basics if they are total beginners. I liked it enough that I decided to take a chance and get the Kindle version. WOW, I should have done that first. On my Kindle Fire H D 7, the paintings enlarge beautifully (at times to larger than the screen). The text also enlarges with no problems on the digital version, but I could read the paperback format with my bifocals- no problems. The color and detail are great- really helpful. I still think the paperback is a handy reference, so I will probably give it to a Kindle-less friend. This book seems like it would be very helpful for urban sketches. It really helps the painter focus on the basics and simplify/streamline the whole process. For me the Kindle format is the better choice and value.

After reading reviews that complained about the size of this book, I bought the kindle version. I could increase the size of the paintings Simple.

As a beginner preparing for first class, I bought this little book. Read it on an airplane and was convinced I could not adequately use watercolor medium, however, the second reading generated a little confidence. Once I actually tried some exercises with the extensive supplies I'd purchased (I LOVE buying supplies for any and all activities!) I really came to appreciate the wealth of information in this tiny book. The author did an admirable job of covering many of the terms and techniques of watercolor and provided excellent examples. I actually like the small size, not to mention the small price! I've purchased larger and more expensive books that did not begin to match the content in Hazel Soan's book.

I believe this is the best tutorial I ever used in my first year of painting. I've read many books, watched a lot of You Tube instruction, and practiced many techniques but this book taught me so much more. I highly recommend it.

I'm a beginning watercolorist. I like this ebook for the many inspiring examples of watercolors done quickly. While the author explains how they were painted it is not a step by step guide as such. I read through in a few days and now will use it for reference.The only issues I have is with the conversion from print book to kindle version. There were a few misspelled words and a few missing pictures.Also the layout didn't always follow exactly. The text might refer to the painting on the right for instance when it is on another page.Mostly not a big deal but I would've liked to have gotten all the paintings.

I've been painting watercolor for nearly a year. I wish I'd had this book then, as it would have saved me thousands of dollars on supplies and countless hours scouring other books with the same claim.. If you're new to watercolor, like me, I'd HIGHLY recommend this book for you. Save your money, as this little (and it is tiny) book is all you need. Hazel Soan's tips in this book are unparalleled, her instruction clear, precise, and absolutely pitch perfect. She does not give in-depth instruction, but enough to encourage you to use your intellect and instinct to paint on your own. It is not a "recipe" type instruction, but powerful, nonetheless. Cannot give this book enough stars, it's that good. Best $8 I ever spent for my watercolor obsession. It was one of two books I bought for my niece when she got bit by the watercolor bug. Superb.

I didn't realize it was pocket size but I love it. It is not really for beginners but I've played a little bit with watercolors and find this book an inspiration to have at hand, I plan to carry it with me in my little storage box of watercolors and tools and papers so that I can just pull it all out and practice during my lunch hour as most of the examples can be accomplished in a short period of time. The artwork shown uses a small palette of colors but look terrific, in my opinion. It's wonderful what can be painted with just different tonal colors of black to gray, or blue to light blue, etc.
