This book has some gems in it, I won't lie. There are some beautiful quotes in it, and large parts of it are very inspiring. Although this is true, I wouldn't say that it's the solution. I got the book because I wanted to reaffirm my decision to wait, and to remind myself the true reason why this decision was so important. I'm not saying the book can't help with that. However, I feel that it only skitters over what should be the most important: our relationship with Christ. After purchasing the book, I read through the whole thing in a few hours. However, afterwards, I did not feel more relieved or resolved in my decision. There's a whole lot of praise for the book within the book, which made me feel a bit off, and many situations described in the book I felt didn't apply to me. I agree with dressing modestly, but I do not like the way she described how and why we should. Much of the book felt a little too condemning and simultaneously fluffy.All in all, the book's okay. If you decide to buy and read this book, great. Many said they got a lot of help from this book, but it wasn't as much the case for me. Overall, I think the solution to strengthening your resolve in waiting would be to develop your relationship with Christ. Reading the book would be an ok idea to give you a few ideas on how to say no, or get a friend to keep you accountable, but it's not the best resource out there. A better book by her I would suggest is Get Lost. This book is more so about us experiencing God's "love feast" for us. I think reading that book would help a lot more. Or pick up "Swipe Right" by Levi Lusko. That ones incredible! Another suggestion I have is to listen to the sermon "Great Sex Guarantee" by Mike Guzzardo, which you can find by looking up online.

After taking preteen and teen girls through Gresh's "Secret Keeper" books, I contemplated buying this book to go through with a bunch of college age girls at summer camp. Before ordering a whole slew of them, I bought one for myself and read through it. I am married already, but the book was so great, I read through it in about a day and a half. It's a book that draws you in and compells you to finish! I then handed it out to my college girls. One of them was worried it would be too much work, as the whole group is also going through Henry Blackaby's "Experiencing God" study, which is pretty intense. 10 minutes after handing them out, the girls were already "into" it. They were discussing all sorts of topics related to purity, and one said she was sure she couldn't stop reading after the assigned first chapter. I'm thrilled that something like this is out there. God is using it to teach Christian girls about His BEST plan for sex, marriage, and purity of thought. The leader's guide is more for a retreat, but can be used as a Bible study, and the companion is nice, but not necessary. Thanks for a much needed study, Dannah!

This book is a must for every teenage girl who wants to remain pure and are looking for good biblical advice on choosing your future mate. This is by far the best book out there for teen girls and it gives excellent insight on many topics that teenage girls want accurate and biblical based answers. I have purchased many of these books and given them to my daughters friends and just young girls I care about. I highly recommend this book!

I’ve been using this to help a young lady who has committed to renew her vow with God and walk a life of purity. It’s not only been a great tool for her but it’s helped me share some great information with my daughter after a terrible divorce. Thank you for the courage to write this fabulous book!

This book has no age boundary! I read it when I was 22 yrs old, and I have to say that God used it dramatically to change how I see myself! I now have much more respect and honor for myself because of how God sees me. Yet, I would give it to any girl I know who is 11 yrs old and older! Yes, the book is about Purity, but it is not the typical "sex is bad" book. It deals with respecting yourself as a woman and how that plays into all aspects of your life. Dannah (Gresh) makes you feel like you know her by the end of the book. It's an intimate ride.I would encourage any lady to read this book! I have bought many and given them to my girlfriends. It's not an easy read if you are serious about learning to be a godly woman. But it is SO worth it, and Dannah makes sure to write a section for us women who have already had sex. To encourage us and remind us that all is forgiven.I wish I had all the right words to describe my experience. I feel my review is lacking in showing just how wonderful this book and Dannah Gresh are...

This book by Rooney is considered a classic in the world of horse owners. After reading about one-half of the book, I agree. The illustrations are excellent, clinical observations and brief discussions of how major muscles, tendons and bone structures work in tandem are clearly written and understandable. It may be a bit pricey, but worth the extra money.

James Rooney is one of my favorite authors. I highly recommend this book to farriers, veterinarians, trainers, and even horse owners. It is very well written and very easy to understand. Dr. Rooney has been a long time contributor to the body of scientific knowledge in hoof care industry and a big favorite among farriers who specialize in lameness and therapeutic horseshoeing.If you are having trouble decidng whether or not to buy this book, you may want to check out the author's web site:"[...]" << cut and past that in your browser's address window.

An excellent book on all aspects of lameness, with clinical signs, causes (when known) and prognoses. Should be in the library of every horse owner, vet student, hoof trimmer and farrier.

I recently checked this book out from my library and have been thoroughly enjoying it. Many of the strange words often heard associated with the horse world are now coming together more firmly in my mind. The book explains the anatomy and physiology of the horse. It is divided into 3 sections: the front limbs, the rear limbs, and the back. The anatomy of each limb is described in detail and is sketched in simple drawings. The author then describes a list of problems that occur with that limb starting near the top and working down. Terms like "splints" "bucked shins" "sweeny" and "epiphysitis" are explained in the book. I highly reccommend it for every horse owner so that they can have a basic working knowledge of their horse, to help figure out what is wrong with it shall it ever become lame (they all do at some point or another), and to be able to discuss the lameness more clearly with their vet.That being said this is not a "fun" read, it is not a novel, it reads like a textbook so you will not be able to sit down and breeze right through it. The book requires careful thought and attention as the reader has to at least somewhat memorize the terms (bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons) to have a clue what the author is describing or they will quickly find themselves skimiming along and not learning much. Also there was a few parts of the book that I personally disagreed wtih that the author mentioned. For example saying that ringbone, navicular disease, and founder are chronic and untreatable conditions is just plain wrong. With today's modern medicine many horses with these problems are being successfully rehabilitated. (Then again I am reading the 1974 edition- perhaps modern renditions have been edited.)Overall, I feel that the book offers a wealth of information to the reader and describes why problems occur and shows how one can prevent them. The majority of the books suggestions can be summed up with what the author hates: that being shoes, hard ground, low heels, long toes, unlevel feet, unlevel ground, overworking the young horse, and fat horses. That being said this is definitely not a "barefoot" book (for those of you aware of the current shoeing - barefoot controversy). It is just a classic that I assume would be mandatory reading for any farrier, vet, or horse owner wanting to familiarize themselve with the lame horse.

I liked Dr. Rooney's book a lot. But I have to agree with the reader who wrote that Dr. Rooney's opinion on chiropractic isn't qualified. I gave it five stars because 99 per cent of the book is extremely useful. The 1 per cent on chiropractic can be overlooked. Still an "A" effort.

I've owned the first edition of this book since it first came out. It has been a constant resource to me in my equine Rolfing practice. I purchased the latest edition to take advantage of Dr. Rooney's latest thinking.If you read my book Equine Structural Integration you'll definitely see Dr. Rooney's influence on my thinking. The diagrams illustrating the biomechanics of the horse's limbs are probably the most valuable to me. If you are a visual learner, like me, then this book is one that you will resonate with.

Great to study and to familiarize oneself with everything that is inside the equine foot and lower limb. Easier then doing dissections yourself!

My Dad, the non-book reading father, read this book cover to cover in less than a week. He said he appreciated the fact that I purchased this book for him saying " I did didn't know that such books existed", "I learned a lot from this book", and "I didn't realize how much has changed since my wedding". Overall, I am so happy I got him this book. It showed him I was serious about his role in my wedding and by him reading it not only let me know that he wants to be involved and informed but I am especially happy that this book was able to lay the foundation and expectations regarding weddings today and bring my dad up to speed so we can have functional conversations about my big day! This book was also delivered in a timely manner and in great condition.

I purchased this book as a gift for my dad when I got engaged. I knew full-well that my dad would not have much time to read the book, but I was pleasantly surprised when I mom took a look at it (even though she received books of her own). She highlighted pages for my dad to look at, and he did. In my mom's description of the book, it makes me an easy reference guide for first-time fathers' of the bride.

Our daughter is engaged and thought this would be a great gift for my husband as we proceed with wedding plans. The first several chapters where fine but when references were made about the bachelor party and the FOB attending, I was shocked. It made references to lap dances, nude women, and other things I don't care to mention. I thought it was inappropriate to suggest that those activities are expected. Not every one indulges in those kind of activities and we are proud to say our future son in law wouldn't dishonor our daughter in that way. The problem was that it just didn't mention it in one place but it was repeated in several areas. I think there could have been more pertinent information for the FOB rather than wasting pages on distasteful decriptions. I am glad I bought the book used, but it was wasted $4. It's going in the trash. Will try to find a better resource that is more tasteful and helpful.

I love that this book was for the father of the bride. The second I gave it to my dad he started to read through it. It helped him know that it's important to me for him to feel included in my wedding planning.

Bob Johansen’s Leaders Make the Future has been one of my favorite reference books the past few years, so I was eager to read his latest, The New Leadership Literacies. It’s a superb extension. Each of the new five new literacies links to the 10 skills from the first book. The new book includes enough substance to be valuable on its own. However, the combination of the two books makes for a more comprehensive picture of the past, present and future, as well as provides the reader more opportunities for insights on actions to take.Initially, I was puzzled by the term “literacies.” As I continued to read this slim yet potent book, I decided that “literacies” is a provocative way to signal that leaders – and actually all of us – need new knowledge to understand our ever dynamic VUCA world and to seed realistic hope for ourselves and others. I’m definitely following Bob’s advice and using these two books together for leadership development.

Too abstract and full of thrown out ideas and lacking concrete advices. After finishing the book I didnt feel like I learned anything of much substance. Im looking forward to delve into the recommended bibliography at the end of the book, perhaps then I can get some real insight.

Great book. Had to read for a Master class but really enjoyed the book. Provides a great perspective and insight. I will be looking into other books by Bob Johansen

NICE BOOK, I REALLY LIKE IT!!

Leaders in every field either fear, anticipate, or attempt to create the future. Change is inevitable and those with the right skills will be able to thrive within a changing reality. In The New Leadership Literacies, Bob Johansen identifies the literacies--combinations of disciplines, practices, and worldviews--that will be needed to lead in a VUCA world of volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity.Johansen is a futurist with both a Master of Divinity degree and a PhD in sociology. He writes, “While I don’t claim to be an expert in the present I have been pretty good at listening for and foreseeing the future.” Johansen’s goal is that by “looking out ten years [one] can look backward from the future and provoke, not predict.” He sees a future where everything is distributed with the potential for both positive and negative results.The author’s approach suggests five leadership literacies: Looking Back from the Future, Voluntary Fear Management, Leadership for Shape-Shifting Organizations, Being There When You Are Not There, and Creating and Sustaining Positive Energy. The effective leader of the future must understand and use these competencies.Johansen provides an approach to leadership that is engaging, humbling, and optimistic. I must say that this is the most engaging book on systems thinking since Peter Senge’s The Fifth Discipline. At the same time, Johansen leads the reader into a new world and introduces terms and ideas that force one to an internet search for further definitions and examples. Although he sees the potential for the misuse of this new reality (and cites examples of how it is already being used by groups such as terrorists), he also understands the potential for the birth of a new era of empowerment and innovationThe New Leadership Literacies will require more than one reading and should provoke intense discussions within leadership teams. Whether you are an executive leader, educator, coach, or aspiring leader, you will find the book stimulating and challenging.

I wish I could convey how important I think this book is. In a world that we all agree is changing rapidly and will change even more rapidly we are spending too little time thinking about the implications. Bob Johansen takes on that role in this book. It feels like both the start and the end of a conversation. It provides all the help anyone needs to begin to discuss what will change and it provides some realistic and practical options for where the world of leadership will end up. The book is easy to read and understand. While it will challenge your ideas frequently, it never leaves you behind. This is a book I'm going to read and reread. It's a book I will gauge the future against and I'm betting more often than not, it will be right.
