The nonprofit organization I run has entered into joint operations with another nonprofit - so I had to enter into a much more complicated usage of Quickbooks for Nonprofits. After I hired a very experienced bookkeeper, I realized I needed to know more myself, so I came online and ordered 4 np accounting books. This one was the only one I read all the way through and still use. I referred to it several times during my first working meeting with the new bookkeeper and he was impressed at how well I understood things - so he went out and bought the book! He recently told me the last chapter alone was worth the price of the book. For me, the information on Chart of Accounts and using Customer:Job and Classes will mean we can run detailed reports for all our funders' requirements without hours of extra work. And I totally agree with the author: you'd think a global find and replace would have been easy to accomplish so we could have labels and terms that reflect a nonprofit world. Shame on you, Intuit!Buy the book - it is worth it!

I wish I had found this book when I first transitioned from the private sector to running a non-profit organization! Coming from a media background, I was familiar with budgets, etc., but I always had a bookkeeper for the actual accounting, so I found myself having to learn fast on my feet; add to that the need to learn how non-profits differ from for profit business and I felt completely behind the eight ball at times. After the first year, I had a functional handle on it, but things were still not where they should be and the annual financial review proved that there was more to learn.Enter *Running Quickbooks in Nonprofits*; this book taught me more in one reading than a year of muddling through it and bothering the accountant with "free" questions until he was blue in the face. Not only did I finally get a good handle on the basics of accounting for a non-profit, but I was able to finally utilize the full power of Quickbooks within its inherent non-profit limitations - even the version of Quickbooks for non-profits isn't well adapted for the purpose as it was not built from the ground up for the unique accounting needs of non-profits. With this book, you will learn how to adapt Quickbooks for you non-profit organization and make it work for you, not against you. What makes *Running Quickbooks in Nonprofits* easy to read and understand and why it delivers is because the author is an accountant working with non-profit clients, so she can deliver real world advice that makes sense to those in the non-profit world.>>>>>>><<<<<<

We are moving our accounting software to QuickBooks. QB is operates differently, makes assumptions that are different, and is overall designed for the regular corporate/business. It does and can work for non-profits. That's where this book helps greatly! Iven writes from the perspective of a person who knows accounting principles and practices demonstrating how this will work in QB for non-profits. She will walk you through each step within your accounting needs giving suggestions and direction about setup, planning, day-to-day usage, reporting, and why it works best as described. This book is toned down from a pure accountant's view but is not designed for a beginner or a person knowing basic accounting of balancing a check book. Some accounting terms and practices are explained, but not all. This is as it should be since QB is designed for more. But for someone willing and desiring to learn more, this is an excellent tool. Read this book BEFORE starting to setup your QB company file. We could not simply setup QB like our old software was setup. It will not report properly. And there are advantages in the day-to-day accounting that proper setup gives. It is the best explaination of "classes," their usage and function. It tells you why certain data entry methods will and will not work with reasoning behind it. QB is weak as far as a "contributions module," but if you follow the suggestions in this book it will work smoothly. Afterall, contributors are customers. The QB non-profit version will change titles on screens and menues to match your usage. Overall, this book is an excellent tool and should be a required purchased and read before converting to QB and setting up your file for the first time as a non-profit.

I have learned a lot from this book. I became the church treasurer when our treasurer died, so didn't receive any training in the QuickBooks system. This book has been very helpful.

I just started a new position as a manager of a small museum. I had to get up to speed in the finances very quickly and the museum uses QuickBooks. As well, I had to make decisions about how to track things and evaluate if our reports (for accuracy and transparency). This book has helped me understand how the museum's QuickBooks works in ways that no course has done so far. Most courses are aimed at the 'standard' ways of using QuickBooks but non-profits use QuickBooks differently. This books helps you really understand the functions available to you and how to align your procedures so that you can produce the reports you need and track your finances correctly.

It was a quick read, and quite pedestrian for an experienced Quickbooks hand, but there were a few basic concepts of "how to" that made a HUGE difference in setting up charts of accounts for quickbooks, and using features in a Non-standard way.I found the information well worth the investment, even though there were only 2 or 3 new things for me in this book, they were major.

I love the way the author moves from ‘Hero’s’ point of view to Purity’s. With the language barrier, it makes it clear that Purity is not understanding Hero’s intent. It’s delightful to watch as time passes and their viewpoints begin to coincide. Born and raised in the gladiator world, Hero has not known love until now: he makes a mistake. Purity is an amazing young woman. With all the terrifying events she’s experienced, she feels safe with Hero, thriving in his care. She faces some difficult choices, choosing wisely. The ending is extraordinarily satisfying!

This author is very good. Well written, however , I must admit that I am disappointed with the many authors whom describe Alien males but the cover pictures are always of regular looking human men. They color on some tattoos , but still an man with printed tatts. That really bugs me.

I was so frustrated in the beginning with Hero as he seemed to not grasp the situation correctly but then he turned it around and got his crap together. Great book, I highly recommend.

Was mesmerized. Love alien sci find it brings uniqueness to a plethera of romance books. Look forward to reading more

This is the second book I have read in this series, and I didn't think it could be better than the first but it was. I loved that it was a different kind of alien than the first (although that is not a shot at the first book. I loved those MC too.) In the first one, Faith is more kick-ass and Rylan is the gentle soul. In Purity, the roles are reversed. Hero is totally badass and Purity is a bit more naive. The lack of their ability to communicate really works for the growth of their relationship since, if Purity had known Hero was hunting her, she would not have thought of him the way she did. I thought it was hilarious how Hero misinterpreted human behavior so much and Purity misinterpreted his behavior to consider him her "hero". I knew he was a goner the first time he referred to her as "his female" and he didn't even realize what he thought. I also liked this book for the same reason I liked Hunting Faith. Although there is an element of "insta-love or attraction", it didn't feel like it. The characters experience so much together in such a short time that it doesn't feel rushed. I also liked that, when they could finally communicate , they didn't change who they were just because of how they were feeling. They had to come to terms with how they were fundamentally different in order to come together. I also loved that, for once, it was more the H who had to do the soul searching more than the h. I can't wait for the next one!I did receive an ARC for an honest review.

There was a lot of humor in this sci-fi romance. You have a gladiator that has only know life as a slave and fighting his entire life. Wins his freedom and now wants to grow his acclaim. Then there is an optimistic, loving, trusting college student that is taken from Earth after dressing for a halloween costume party as someone doing 80's aerobics. Set on a wild planet Purity has no idea what is going on and looks to the gladiator as her "Hero" come to rescue her. As Purity can not understand Hero the back and forth comments from them, seeing the same events and action from totally different viewpoints is often hilarious. It is also sweet and a hopeful romance that love and kindness can change show even a hardened gladiator heart.

I have yet to read a bad (or even "meh") Tracy Lauren book. Her characters all feel unique from book to book, and she's able to create strong (but never obnoxious), multidimensional characters that you relate to and care about.I very much enjoyed reading the different points of view (and opposing realities) that the hero and heroine experienced. It was at different times incredibly funny and poignant. As someone who was a teen during the 80s, He'Rokvska Naa's initial impressions of Purity are particularly hilarious - so much so that I read parts of it aloud to my husband, who shared my appreciation for Tracy Lauren's fabulous sense of humor and creativity.I don't want to give spoilers, but Tracy Lauren managed to write a truly unique story that required deftness and skill - in the hands of someone with less talent, the premise would have resulted in a Hero to hate.I just ADORED Purity, the heroine. Such a sweet, positive person. She understood it could be her weakness at times, but remained true to herself. Purity's pureness of heart and ability to expect the best intentions from others turned out to be her salvation, as her amazing character and heart tamed her hunter.Thank you Tracy - all of your books are wonderful, but I found Hunting Purity to be a true gift!

I really loved this book about Purity and Hero! Purity is a college aged student, who is abducted on her way to a costume sorority party. Through some cultural misconceptions, Hero believes she’s a warrior worth his time. Their romance is not instant love, and I often felt myself wondering if they could overcome their vast differences and situation. I really loved Purity. She was a great heroine, in my opinion. Hero is conflicted because of his culture and lifestyle, which made the story progression seem more natural and not forced. I would have loved more time with them. Definitely take a chance and read this one! You don’t have to read the first one in this series- but it would help you some with back story.Also- there is a sweet epilogue, which I always appreciate.

About the Author

Born in London, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797-51) was the daughter of William Godwin, a noted social theorist, and Mary Wollstonecraft, one of the leading literary women of the day. Her mother died soon after her birth, and Mary was raised first under the care of servants, then by a stepmother, and finally in the rarefied intellectual atmosphere of her father’s circle. In May 1814, she met Percy Bysshe Shelley and, in July of the year, moved with him to the Continent. Two years later, after the death of Shelley’s wife, the poet and Mary were able to wed. It was in Switzerland in 1816, as a result of a story-writing competition among the Shelleys and Lord Byron, that Mary began Frankenstein, her first and most famous novel. Published in 1818, it was followed by such works as Valperga (1823), The Last Man (1826), and Falkner (1837). In 1822, after the death of her husband, she devoted herself to the upbringing of her son and the securing of his right to the Shelley family title.   Douglas Clegg is the award-winning author of more than twenty-five books, including Neverland, Isis, and The Vampyricon trilogy. His fiction encompasses gothic, suspense, fantasy, and horror themes. An e-book pioneer, he created the internet’s first e-serial novel, Naomi, which was released in 1999.   Harold Bloom, the country’s preeminent literary critic, is Sterling Professor of the Humanities and English at Yale University. He is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Gold Medal of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Among his most important books are The Anatomy of Influence: Literature as a Way of Life and How to Read and Why.

This was supposed to be the original 1818 version of the book, but it isn’t. It’s a bizarre copy - there are no publishing notes at all. It’s missing the Preface. I compared the first few chapters to an online version of the 1818 book and I noticed differences in Letter 3 where a whole paragraph was added. I would need to check the 1831 version to see if that is what this book is. I should return it but it was $4 and not worth the effort.

This book was one of the biggest surprises for me! Absolutely NOTHING what I expected. When someone says word "Frankenstein", you think about a lab, a mad proffesor, some lightning buzzing into the bolts inside monster's head. Drop all this imagination! This classical book had nothing of it! :O Maybe that's why I was so amazed. If I didn't have all those expectations, maybe my rating would be lower, but now, damn, I liked it a lot! Since I have so much to say, I'll just drop it into a list, of good and bad things :)1) It's awesome that Amazon is giving free ebooks for classical literature like this! Thanks, Amazon! And what a surprise it was for me, that this Kindle edition is the real original "Frankenstein", but audiobook narrated by George Guidhall is of a later edition (which was edited by the author herself, when her book became famous). So reading those two books where more like reading two separate books for me - one ebook and one audiobook, with quite a lot of changes, even so major as who Elizabeth was to Victor - a real cousin, or just a girl taken from street! :O2) As I said, I have expected this book to be absolutely different! A horror story, about making a man from different body parts. Actually this only took a few pages of the book. All the book was Victor's thoughts about what he had done, creatures thoughts about humankind, and 3) a lot a lot A LOT of words misery, wretchedness and countenance :D My oh my, I have never read so many same QQing thoughts in my life! :D This book could be a good 5 star if Victor's thoughts weren't so TERRIBLY repetitive. He said he feels misery/is miserable/life's misery at least 135 times (just did a search in my Kindle). I won't even count other of his cryings. I should be ashamed of making fun of his inner tortures. Victor Frankenstein had a really difficult life, but I'm not if it was a good idea by the author to write it in such a repetitive way! but on the other hand - it was an absolutely different style from the books I usually read, so also a good thing.4) Never ever don't you dear call a man-made-man a "Frankenstein"! He didn't have a name! Frankenstein was his creator. But the creature was just that - a creature. And what a surprise he was! All my life I thought of Frankenstein's creature to be a mindless monster, with bolts in his head, making ugly sounds and walking like a zombie. That's what those movies show! But this was such a mistake of mine! :O Creature was one of the most intelligent characters in the story! His ability to deduct, to learn, to feel... he was amazing! The story creature told about his first year of life was so heartgripping that I felt so fond of him, so sorry for him... Sadly later he changed.. Loniness makes people (and other creatures) do bad things... :( But still.. he was not a mindless zombie. He was extremely sensitive being.. With emotions on extremities - both good and bad. But wouldn't we be like that, if we didn't have parents and comfort of other people to learn from?I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to read some intricate English language, but who has enough patience to suffer though all characters' repetitive sufferings (pun intended). This book is emotional, but not in a romantic way. It makes You think about creators responsibility against the creation. And most of all, it shows how Your decisions can change Your whole life!

If you're reading this review, you only have one question. You're not looking for a book review, you already know it's a classic. You already know this is the most original, and one of the best, and best-written horror stories in literature. You may or may not like the story, but that's a matter of personal taste. A lot of people don't like Shakespeare, but no one questions whether he was a good writer or not. If you don't like the writing style, it's because you aren't familiar with the English of this period. Nearly eighty years before Stoker's "Dracula" ( an idea stolen from Polidori's "The Vampyre", which was an idea stolen from LeFanu's "Carmilla"), this most-original horror masterpiece was born. So, your only question is, "Is this really the uncensored 1818 version? Because I've only seen one other verified version, and it's over twenty dollars in paperback. All the others claiming to be the 1818 version have been disproved." YES, as far as I can tell, it is. The only preface is Shelley's own original. There is no introduction, no commentary or editorial credits whatsoever. There are no illustrations, and the spelling and language have not been edited. Have a good thesaurus handy. So, here it is, the author's original script, no frills, for a bargain price. Which is exactly what I was looking for.

Do not buy this (October 22, 2017) Kindle edition of Frankenstein. The book is riddled with typographic errors and the wording is off in many places. Some sentences don't flow or even make sense. It appears a bad OCR tool was used to translate the original Frankenstein novel to this bastardization. I had to put down the book since it was simply unreadable. As an alternative, I downloaded the open source version (legally free) from Gutenberg here: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/84. I'm now reading and enjoying Frankenstein on its 200th anniversary.

A young governess is hired to care for a young girl named Flora and her brother, Miles. Miles has been expelled from a prestigious school and never explains why he has been sent home. Not For Sale by David Batstone"Not For Sale" is one of those books that will leave in an indelible mark in your being. David Batstone has written an eye-opening account on the existing crisis of global human slavery. This fascinating book will take you through various personal accounts of the victims, survivors and abolitionist activists. It is a mind-changing, inspirational book that is a call for action. This 320-page book is composed of the following six chapters: 1. Shining Light into the Sexual Darkness: Cambodia and Thailand, 2. Breaking the Chains of Bonded Laborers: South Asia, 3. Rescuing the Child Soldiers: Uganda, 4. Undermining the Sex Syndicate: Europe, 5. Sheltering the Lost Children: Peru, and 6. Building a New Underground Railroad: USA.Positives:1. Wow! Where can I begin? It's a well-written, well-researched, fascinating look at the evil of global human trafficking.2. This book grabs you, overwhelms you and it ultimately changes you.3. An eye-opening book about the current form of human trafficking.4. The author treats this subject with utmost respect and compels the reader through common moral decency.5. Enough facts to ground the seriousness of the issue of human slavery but it is the author's ability to convey the stories in a lucid manner that drives this gem of a book.6. This is in fact a global issue!7. It's an inspirational book that compels you to do something. Mr. Batstone does a wonderful job of inspiring a modern-day abolitionist.8. Very good quotes abound. "A moral obligation cannot arise from an immoral act".9. How poverty rips apart a community.10. The wonderful inspirational stories of the many activists who care.11. The tools of the slave traders and how they use them for their evil purposes. Coercion and deception among them.12. The heart-ripping stories of children being sold into the sex trade.13. The story of a good lawyer...who knew?14. How the rich and powerful can work around a corrupt system.15. The evolution of the traffickers.16. The interesting take of how Germany and the Netherlands handle prostitution.17. The impact of corruption.18. Leveraging international diplomacy and its impact.19. The process of enslavement explained.20. How to deal with the problem? Recommendations from the activists.21. The facts from the published report: "Hidden Slaves: Forced Labor in the United States".22. A sound strategy on what can be done to fight the evil of human trafficking.23. A great conclusion chapter on how to end the slave trade in our time.24. A great list of anti human-trafficking resources.25. Good notes reference.Negatives:1. It uses flashbacks to tell the different stories. At first a little confusing but once you get into the rhythm of the stories, it works well.2. Illustrations and charts would have added value.3. Having to wait for Mr. Batstone's next book.In summary, "Not For Sale" is a captivating book that must be read. It's heartbreaking, it's emotional, it's gripping but ultimately it's inspirational and educational. Human trafficking is an evil that must be eradicated and the author does a wonderful job of providing the inspiration and guidance to do so. Bravo!Further recommendation: "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Batstone's style is a bit arrogant and sensationalistic but he covers this difficult topic in a way that is both accessible and informative. The book starts wide and closes in on the US, making the point that slavery happens here too. Child and labor slavery is covered but the focus is on sex trafficking.I wanted to know more about this troubling issue but was afraid I'd be overwhelmed by the disturbing nature of the information. Instead I was heartened by the stories of people around the world conquering this issue in their own ways. He also provides several resources for people interested in donating or contributing.I'm sure there are more in-depth and nuanced books on the topic. But if, like me, you aren't sure where to start, this is probably a good first read.

It seemed to me that I had encountered both in the course of my first trip to Moldova, one of the countries discussed in depth as a supplier of trafficked women in this excellent book by David Batstone.Angels of Darkness - the exploiters, operating with an inhumanity and spine chilling demonstration of evil in their relentless pursuit of profit, stealing the lives of the innocent and the weak.Angels of Light - the abolitionists and rescuers, those who would not look away, but rather risk their very lives to confront this great unrecognized evil of the modern age, and do so with courage, compassion, endurance and vision that would seem to be far beyond any human capacity that I could understand. Not for Sale describes this clash of good and evil swirling about the global slave trade in its many pernicious expressions in the 21st century. The author has chosen a narrative form in which he weaves together stories of lives - those of the innocent victims, the Angels of Darkness who enslave and exploit them, and the Angels of Light who will leave no stone unturned to set the captives free. Each chapter tells the story of a different manifestation of slavery from around the world. These include providing children for the smorgasbord of sex tourism in Southeast Asia, slave workers to make bricks in India, gruesome accounts of children abducted to serve as soldiers (and the sex slaves of commanders) in Uganda, the role of organized crime in developing trafficking as vibrant economic growth engine in the commercially devastated former Soviet Republics, and on and on.The reader comes away with an understanding of the many forms of modern day slavery, the conditions that give rise to it, and what can be done to combat it.And this is perhaps the best aspect of the book - it contains a call to action, and describes many ways in which even those of us who are not heroes can join the fight. Ultimately, it speaks of hope in a context that at first glance would seem to be utterly hopeless. As the author writes, "I believe in the power of individuals to change the world".Angels of Light.
