Very happy I decided to purchase "The Desire of Ages" ebook with the audio version read by Barbara Caruso. I've been searching for an affordable audio version and came across this which was recently released last year (2016). The ebook is easy to navigate and it really is helpful to toggle between reading and listening via bluetooth headset during my long commutes or when attending to chores. I appreciate the audio reading pace and apt voice inflections that I believe give the listener a chance to ponder on some pretty compelling intellect by Ellen G. White. I've recently become very interested in her writings, and I look forward to purchasing the entire "Conflict of the Ages" series & future audio productions by this publishing company.

Other than the Bible, this is my most favorite book. It's an in-depth, comprehensive story about Jesus' life and explains why there was sin, why Jesus had to come, and what He is doing now in Heaven. Beautifully written, captivating, and very spiritual. I can't say enough about how the writer explains the story of love, grace and mercy to people.

This rating is not given on book content but on format. Desks of Ages is a wonderful book for any home to have that wants to learn more about how and where Jesus lived. Any who want to become drawn into his life. This book remains true to Biblical writings. However it is impossible (almost) to look up events, people or places since an index is not included as it is in my hardback copy. Very did about that. But if you just want to read straight through no problem.

You will not find a better book than this. Well, the Bible would be a ton better, but this one is very good too. I recommend this to any and everyone. REad through this book and your heart and mind will be changed. The way it takes you through the Life, Death and Resurrection of Christ is amazing!!! Totally life changing!

There has been a deep stirring in my soul for many years. I learned to dislike this author when young because every time we kids wanted to do something, "Ms. White says that is a sin" was the general excuse to say no. Now, as an adult trying to understand some spiritual issues, I started reading this. What a switch! There is good enlightenment on the life of Jesus and it makes Him, for me, far more "human", and therefor, more believable. To learn that we do not experience emotions that He also experienced as a man made a whole world of difference. I have not completed the book but what I have read so far has done a great deal to help me understand my faith, my belief, and my acceptance of Jesus Christ.

The 1945 edition shown in the picture is my favorite of the book The Desire of Ages. I love the older pictures and the old time layout. This book is so valuable to me personally I read it again and again. It's not superficial, it is deep, yet worded so clear and understandable that it reaches the heart, and you find yourself loving the person Jesus Christ and in touch with the reality of His existence and eternal presence. You long to know Him better, to be closer to Him. This precious book inspires personal faith in Him, and walking with Him becomes a reality. Here's a couple quotes picked out at random:At His baptism when many laid eyes on Him for the first time: "But as the people looked upon Him, they saw a face where divine compassion, was marked with humility, and expressive of unutterable love. He seemed to be surrounded by an atmosphere of spiritual influence. While His manners were gentle and unassuming, He impressed men with a sense of power that was hidden, yet could not be wholly concealed. Was this the One for whom Israel had so long waited?", p. 138.The first paragraph in the chapter, "As a Child":"The childhood and youth of Jesus were spent in a little mountain village. There was no place on earth that would not have been honored by His presence. The palaces of kings would have been privileged in receiving Him as a guest. But He passed by the homes of wealth, the courts of royalty, and the renowned seats of learning, to make His home in obscure and despised Nazareth.", p. 68.I never want to be without this book.

Desire of Ages is a masterpiece, a gift of love from the heart of the savior. It's a long book, which is very good, because you receive an inexhaustible supply of Christian nourishment. The author's insight into the deepest meanings of the story of "Emmanuel" -- that is, Christ as a gift to the human race -- is uncanny, as though she herself witnessed the words and actions of the Son of God. Read a sample of the book . . . you owe yourself that much and you will never be sorry that you did.

Do you want to know more about the life and ministry of Jesus? This is the book for you. I loved it and after reading it felt more connected with the Saviour, as the Author helps you to see Him in all of his Humanity.

Amazon.com Review

Brenna Yovanoff and Maggie Stiefvater: Author One-on-One Brenna Yovanoff is is the author of The Replacement and has published in various journals. She lives in Denver, Colorado. Recently she sat down with Maggie Stiefvater to discuss Stiefvater's Ballad and The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. Read the resulting interview below, or turn the tables to see what happened when Maggie interviewed Brenna. Brenna: Even though we all know that characters are not authors, we also know that characters sort of are their authors (at least a little bit). Which of your characters would you say is most like you as a person? Maggie: Well, most of my characters are delightfully single-minded, because that is what characters do. So if I were arguing a high-level thesis paper, I’d probably declare that, in fact, all of my characters are really me, just exaggerated, stripped of gray areas and less than crystal clear motivations. Even the evil ones. Maybe especially the evil ones. >br/> That said, I’ve been told I’m quite like Isabel from the Shiver [Wolves of Mercy Falls] series and James from Ballad. Brenna: If Cole from the Shiver trilogy and James from Ballad had to fight each other in a snark-off, who would win? Maggie: James, I’m afraid. Cole has learned to rely far too much on his appearance to win these things and sometimes, my friends, a finely crafted chin will just not get you ahead in life. Brenna: When your characters are romantically involved, they’re willing to fight desperately to be together, often against seemingly insurmountable odds. Like when their significant others turn into wolves and run away into the forest. Where do you stand on the topic of true love? Maggie: I’m a fan/ believer/ proponent of true love. I think it’s worth waiting for, and I also think it’s worth fighting for once you’ve found it. I’m one of those madly in love people who just doesn’t understand why anyone would stand for anything less. I also find long-term dating confusing. I was engaged after a month and a half because, like Grace in Shiver, I am bad at shopping. I just see what I want, and then I go and get it. Brenna: Cole St. Clair’s band Narkotika is, understandably, not a real band. However, if it were a real band, what would it sound like? Maggie: Well, I think that Narkotika, like love, is in the eye of the beholder. It’s supposed to be an edgy, hard, slightly unsettling band, and that varies depending on what you listen to. Also, it was originally an electronica band (think Blaqk Audio). These days I go through life thinking that possibly they would sound like Ringside. Or Korn. Or Carolina Liar. Or Three Days Grace. I realize that these bands sound nothing like each other. I have no good explanation for that. Brenna: What would you say to all the woefully optimistic girls out there (i.e., me) who want to know if Cole would date them? What if they said please? Maggie: Oh, Cole would date you. I guarantee you he would date you. If by “date,” you mean “make out with you in a dark hallway, remove some of your clothing, completely avoid giving you his contact information, disappear, and make you have a resulting existential crisis about why you date boys who treat you badly.” The please wouldn’t be necessary.

Prologue: I’ve read, I believe, all of Stiefvater’s novels, and I think that she an amazing writer. I am also not writing this as a teaser, so there will be reveals that you shouldn’t read before you read the first book. That said I had a hard time getting into this book—not sure why, but perhaps because the major character from the first novel steps back and (semi-central) James becomes the pivotal character. They have moved on from their prior school to a famous high school for musicians. And they have also moved on, to some extent, from each other. Dee’s communication to James consists primarily of unsent text messages. While James is working hard to understand this new, odd school, he starts hearing music coming from the hills, and seeing and hearing one of Them who wants to become his mentor in exchange for . . . . Where is the music coming from? What does she want from James?Read on to find (some of) the answers. Oh, and as was mentioned above, this tale has a walloping finish—two late, late nights for me.

I can't believe it took me this long to finish this particular book of Stiefvater's. This now leaves me with only one book of hers that I have yet to read. Ballad was exactly as the name indicates. The story seemed to form it's own music in reading. What Stiefvater can do with words mesmerizes me. I am a true fan for life. I loved loved loved Nuala and James. Their characters are two of my favorite characters out of all the characters I've ever read from Stiefvater. Their story is beautiful and yet tragic at the same time. You can't help but feel their every emotion and be drawn into this wicked web that is weaved through out each chapter. Trust me when I tell you that this is a book you won't be disappointed with.

I know a lot of the reviewers comment that this didn't live up to the first book. That Dee was a shadow of herself or the writing or story didn't flow in quite the same way... I get where they're coming from, but I don't entirely agree. This book has its own kind of beauty in it. It's different from Lament. It's a different storyline, different POV and, most significantly, the characters are different because they've been shaped by what happened in Lament. James nearly died and he declared his love to Dee without any response from her, then watched as she fell in love with another man. Dee chose her best friend's life over giving her true love life to be with her, thus losing him to the fairy realm. In one fell swoop she lost her best friend (because the "L" word was tossed out there and can never be taken back) and her soul mate (because to not die forever he's now stuck in fairydum somewhere). So when we start this book, they are changed. Dee may be shell of herself, but it didn't feel like a plot device as much as a real continuation of her story, only Ballad wasn't her story, it was James's story, so that shadow was cast against the light of his tale. Yes, it was sad that Dee lost so much of herself, but I think it made sense that after being so brutally used up by the fairies and then losing so much, she had lost so much of herself. So it was probably a good thing this wasn't her POV story, because she'd lost her fight.James is a brilliant character and I loved being in his head for this book. The first person POV shifts between him and Nuala were distinct and engaging and the storyline kept me turning the pages. In addition to the beauty of this author's prose, I love the depth of emotion, the raw humanity of it, even as we're transported to a magical world-within-our-world of fairies. This is a definite 5 star read, in a different way than Lament, but still extraordinary and beautiful.

**spoilers below**It took me a month and a half to read this book...FAR TOO LONG. I just couldn't get into it. I was still caught up on Dee and Luke and when I started reading and figured out there wasn't going to be any real closure on that relationship, I was a little saddened. I hated the character Nuala from beginning to end and by the end of the book I wasn't that fond of James either...he ended up looking like a real jerk. I understand that he was in love with Dee. But he had years to tell her and waited until she fell in love with someone else to do so (typical) Then gets pissed at her for not feeling the same way and gets frustrated at her being heartbroken over her losing Luke (I'm assuming that's what has happened if there isn't going to be a book about them). Give the girl some time and credit for what she did do. I mean she did choose to save his life (james) over LukesI'll admit it was wrong of her to kiss James knowing how he felt about her and then tell him she was thinking of Luke while she did it...that was a pretty crappy thing to say and do. But other than that she was nice to James even when she needed him and he was too busy obsessing about her loving him. When Dee and Luke were together she never once rubbed it in James's face the way he did with his relationship with Nuala. Yeah, we get it he was moving on but did he really have to be such a (add really bad word here)I just really didn't much care for this book and I only read it b/c I had bought it and started it and I didn't want my money and little bit of time go to waste. There were parts in the book that just seemed kind of stupid and silly and I just didn't get it. Like, James dies when chasing Cernunnos????? Did he drag him through water? Did he die from just touching Cernunnos? Did Cernunnos just stop running and decide to kill him? And how did Nuala die too? Or where they really dead? They whole section seemed like it was added just to help with some sort of information that needed to be passed on to the reader but it just added to my hate of this book. When and why did Dee kill Linnet? Did she really see Luke? She mentions how They tricked her...how? Too much was said and then ignored later on so that I was left hanging and wondering. Una and Brennan appeared a bit why couldn't Luke? Frustration frustration.I guess I can see where people who are fans of James will like this book but I didn't know I was supposed to be pulling for him in the last book so I didn't really pay much attention to him until he grew a pair (too little too late)and told Dee he loved her. UGH..... This book just frustrates me and puts me in a bad mood. lol.On a different note...the description of things was beautiful. I could picture every little thing and all the colors and I could even imagine the smells.Since James the jerk and Nuala the (insert bad word rhyming with witch here) got a happy ending, all I can hope for it that Maggie Stiefvater will find it in her heart and creative imagination to give Dee and Luke one as well.I know a lot of people won't agree with me on this but that's ok...it's just different opinions. but I wouldn't mind it if anyone would like to clear up any of the questions above. :-)

This is third edition of Tim Benson's now standard text on healthcare interoperability. It does focus on the specific technologies listed in the title, but it's more than just a handbook. Instead, it begins with a careful discussion of interoperability, and why building interoperable solutions in the healthcare domain has proven so difficult. The analysis is insightful, and well worth reading for any healthcare professional, informatics, or developer. The book offers no magic bullets, but understanding the nature of the problem is key developing solutions. In the second part of the book, Benson moves on to a surprisingly detailed discussion of SNOMED CT, first considering its history and guiding principles, and then delving into the details. It may seem odd that the title of the book only mentions SNOMED. Why not ICD-10, LOINC, or any of the other vocabularies that play such a basic role in EHR systems today? In fact, Benson does discuss ICD_10, LOINC and UMLS. But SNOMED CT is presented as an example of how a vocabulary (really, an ontology) ought to be designed, and is compared in some detail with position dependent coding schemes. In my opinion, this was useful as practical example of the theory discussed in the first part of the book. But it also made me think about software design. The remaining sections of the book focus on HL7, XDS, and FHIR. Unfortunately, the treatment of HL7v2 was brief, almost too brief. But that's also inevitable. It's simply not possible for a book such as this one to cover the protocol in detail. Instead, the book covers enough detail to understand the essentials of message structure, encoding, and the event model. Examples include patient identification (PID) and visit (PV1) But the main focus here is providing a reference point. The next chapters consider HL7 V3, including the Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and information model (RIM) . The coverage of HL7 V3 was more detailed than I expected, including a discussion of constrained models and the dynamic model. But again, much of the focus was on what has proved successful in HL7 V3, what has not, and why. In this part of the book, as elsewhere, there is a focus on common themes, and we are able to see how different technologies are used to address the same problems. At this point, I'll skip over the section on XDS and move on to FHIR. This shouldn't be taken as a criticism of the chapter on IHE XDS. Rather, I feel less qualified to comment here (and this review is already getting a bit long!)The final part of the book, co-authored with Grahams Grieve, the creator of FHIR, presents Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (pronounced "fire") This is a technology based on the principles of REST and agile computing, and which incorporates many of the best ideas of earlier generations of HL7. This book does a good job of presenting the main ideas from scratch, and does not fall prey to th e temptation to leave out important topics such as extensions, conformance and profiles, and implementing FHIR. Of course, there is much about the details of the specification that is not covered, but the book does a good job of presenting the core principles and underlying concepts. In the end, we see enough of these technologies to understand how they can be used to address problems of interoperability, and that is the point.

Concise, expertly written and extremely useful book for those of us who are trying to move health informatics out of the stone (err, paper) age to interconnect the stakeholders together finally!! This book is a must-read for all serious practitioners. Highly recommended.

It should be required reading for anyone working to achieve better quality, healthier people and smarter spending in healthcare.
