I have been interested in the concept of the law of attraction for many years and each author seems to have their own take on it, including Esther Hicks and John Assaraf. Hicks emphasizes the need to focus on a better life story and feel good about it. John Assaraf talks of the brain's ability to sift through billions of data to find pathways to what you focus upon. Others, including the many people featured in "The Secret" note that it is important to feel as if you have already achieved what you want, and feel grateful for it even before it appears. Braden applies the science to the concept. He describes scientific findings of the ability of energy particles to be influenced by things not in proximity, and by thought, which is also a form of energy. He notes that ancient cultures already know about the power, and he looks at the actual texts of the writings that would later be included in the bible, noting parts that are eliminated through the various translations that describe the power of thought, which later became the power of prayer. I can feel his own sense of wonderment in what he uncovers, and enjoy his lectures on You-Tube. I cover him and other Law of Attraction writers on my site(...) and hope to review more of his works.

Old is gold. The wisdom of ancient yoga, Buddhism, and Taoism - and to some extent, Greek philosophy - is tapped into by this book by Gregg Braden. He shows how these Eastern belief systems are being confirmed by modern discoveries in quantum physics.He says that the discoveries of quantum physics are astonishing. However, because they do not seem to have important implications for our personal lives, these discoveries have not made great waves in the public imagination. Therefore, he seeks to find a bridge that might make these discoveries more meaningful.He feels that he has discovered such a bridge. (Of course many other authors such as Deepak Chopra have been doing this since the 80s and write about the same thing – a field of ‘endless possibilities’ in nature and how you can change your future). However, Braden is a little more technical in his explanations. He points to several ‘groundbreaking’ experiments. I looked up their references and found that none of the experiments have been published in mainstream journals. Apparently, mainstream science does not accept these claims. But there is nothing new in that.Braden calls the bridge he has discovered the ‘divine matrix.’ However, unlike the Eastern faiths he refers to, he describes the matrix as physical, material. It is the material energy of the physical universe. It seems odd that he should call it divine, since divinity usually implies the transcendent, nonmaterial, and spiritual.He believes that this physical energy of the universe can be touched and communicated with through human emotions. We can use our emotions to change not just ourselves, but simultaneously the whole universe with which we are interconnected in a divine net.We are not just observers in this universe, but participators. This is what quantum physics says about our world on the subatomic level - not the physical level of our everyday lives. However, Braden seeks to challenge this and says that our thoughts and dreams come true because of our connection with the divine matrix. As such, our whole lives as we see them are simply a result of our thoughts. Our lives are like a non-judgmental cinema screen. It reveals to us what we are projecting. Braden says we can change our lives by changing the thoughts we project.Of course, this is the golden wisdom of ancient yogis and other spiritual masters of various faiths. Braden has attempted to package and explain it in terms of quantum physics.Full disclosure: I’m a peer-reviewed researcher and author on this subject and also emerging new connections between ancient yoga, the Bible, and science.

An outstanding read! Clear, concise, and mind-opening! I'd read Divine Matrix several years ago then loaned my copy of the book to someone -- who never returned it. Well, no way is my library "complete" without it, so I re-purchased it recently, and as I read it again I found that it is even better than I had remembered it being! A must read for anyone who wants to understand how life works.

I have read a number of books recently from this general field of Noetics. There is definitely a wide range when it comes to authors that are publishing on this, and it can be difficult to find one that really gives you the feel that they are studying this in a practical way with a strict accountability to truth. Braden is the author that has most convinced me that there is some authenticity to be found in this field. He comes from a background as a scientist and so does not neglect the need to cite some good hard research studies. I can recommend this book to anyone who is searching for some reliable information to keep his feet on the ground in light of some other authors who get a little carried away in this field.

My first book from Gregg Braden. Made me order 3 more of his books. The topics and scientific backing makes them so engaging and interesting. His own personal accounts add a lovely touch and evening more real. His style of writing is so enjoyable and addictive to read. I couldnt out it down once started. Reference to back up the theory allows for further own research if you wish. I would recommend to anyone interested in self healing, the universe or reality.

I really enjoyed this book & the author's writing style! He writes as if he's speaking to a small classroom of students (in a friendly manner)! Even though I already knew a lot of the information I still enjoyed reading this so much that it was hard to put down. It's about synchronicity, consciousness, how important our own beliefs are and how everything & everyone is all connected.

I saw "Doubt" this weekend down in the Twin Cities. While you are more likely to see a national touring company of a Tony Award winning musical, such as "The Light in the Piazza" (which we will see in a couple of weeks), Tony Award winning dramas do make it out to the hinterlands from time to time. What was rare was that the cast was headed by Cherry Jones, who won her second Tony Award for originating the role of Sister Aloysius on Broadway. Usually you have to go to New York City to see the stars in the show (or maybe Los Angeles, which is where I saw Michael Crawford do "Phantom"), so this was a real treat. The draw might have been an award-winning actress, but by the end of the performance the star is John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer Prize winning play."Doubt: A Parable" is set in a parochial school in the Bronx in the Autumn of 1964 and begins with a homily by Father Flynn that questions the role of doubt in the modern world and sets the stage for the drama. The priest asks the audience, "What do you do when you're not sure?" Then Sister Aloysius, the principal of the school, has a meeting in her office with young Sister James, who is warned about being too passionate about teaching history to her students in general and in particular not to turn FDR into a secular saint. Sister Aloysius is not a sympathetic figure, especially given that our introduction to the nun is to watch her crush the joy of teaching out of a young teacher. However, then she makes Sister James aware that she has concerns for a new student, Donald Mueller, the school's first black child. Her concern is not because of the boy's race, but because she suspects Flynn has been "interfering" with the boy.Distance makes it difficult to remember the times, but an undercurrent of the play is how Sister Aloysius is strictly old school while Father Flynn has embraced the directives of the Second Vatican Council to make the clergy more accessible to their parish and become like "members of their family." Shanley does not get into deep theological issues but finds a telling point of contention in Sister Aloysius' dismissal of the song "Frosty the Snowman" as an example of paganism. Yet despite our lack of agreement with her strict conservatism, it is impossible not to be concerned about Sister Aloysisus' suspicions regarding the charismatic young priest who likes his fingernails to be slightly long.I have a background in competitive debate so one of the things I appreciated in Shanley's drama is how he balances the two sides to create the requisite titular state. When I was dissecting the play with my wife on the way home from the theater I discovered that while I (male Italian raised Lutheran) was looking at the play from the assumption of the priest's innocence, she (female Irish raised Catholic) was assuming he was guilty. Of course the play works both ways, but certainly there have been more than enough headlines about stories of abuse in the Catholic Church in the past decade to make it easier for the play's audience to jump to the same conclusion as Sister Aloysius.Coming to a decision as to the "truth" of what happened between Father Flynn and the young boy is a question of when you decide to place your bet on who to believe. Sister Aloysius begins the play with her suspicions and moves towards certainty on her own timetable. Sister James serves as a warning not to decide too early, but Shanley clearly wants us to come to our own decisions before the drama's "resolution." Waiting until you are sure is to repeat Hamlet's tragic error, which is not to say that Sister Aloysius is the Dane's opposite because she is not guilty of the proverbial rush to judgment. The term "reasonable doubt" is never used in the play, but it certainly comes into play as the nun commits to certainty in advance of having absolute proof, mainly because being denied such proof cannot, in her mind at least, preclude action. Sister Aloysius wants to know what really happened between Father Flynn and Donald, even if the boy's mother is willing to turn a blind eye.For me the point at which Sister Aloysius becomes heroic is when Father Flynn threatens her for her refusal to follow Church protocols. He seeks to convince her that she has no choice, because failure to obey would basically send her to Hell for disobedience. But she sees herself in the same danger if she falls to do what she can to save one of her children, and in her decision to damn herself for the right reason and his decision to coerce rather than persuade is where my doubts were erased. For me the most delicious irony is the way Sister Aloysius' crucial phone call mirrors Father Flynn's point earlier in the play about the value of true stories. The final line of the play is also dripping with irony in a very conscious effort by Shanley to leave his audience exactly as he wants them to be.

Are there times in the course of human endeavors where the end justifies the means? Are there times when mere suspicion is sufficient to take up arms against a potential threat? Suppose the potential victim is a child and the suspected predator is a person of power. Suppose the suspect is your superior? Suppose you are a nun and he is a priest. Do you act to stop him without proof? How much proof of harm, potential harm, do you need? Does the way the priest looks at the boy provide sufficient reason for a nun to interfere? Suppose the evidence of that "look" came to the nun second hand. Then what? What should the nun do?The nun is Sister Aloysius, a worldly older nun. A disciplinarian. A traditionalist. She's wary of the young parish priest, Father Flynn, who makes up interesting parables that teach and inspire. Sister Aloysius is also uncomfortable with the fact that Father Flynn seems to enjoy playing basketball with the boys just a little too much. She's uncomfortable with the fact that the boys like rather than fear Father Flynn. In short, Sister Aloysius has doubts. She has doubts, serious doubts about Father Flynn. She decides.....No, she is compelled, compelled by doubt, serious doubt...compelled to act. Damn the facts! Damn the consequences! In the pursuit of wrongdoing, a nun has to do what a nun has to do. If the destuction of a man's reputation is the price to assure the safety of a child, then no doubt that's the way it has to be...Right?

It feels very real, almost compelling. It was my first read of Shane's plays. It led me to what I consider to be a masterpiece; Outside Mullingar

Amazing play

I was required to read this play for a college class, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by it! The play is short, about 60 pages, but it is very thought provoking. The characters are well developed, and the plot has you jumping back and forth between sides as you second-guess who is innocent and who is guilty. In the end, the only thing that is certain is your doubt. I hope to someday see it in the theater!

For centuries people have doubted religion and its workers, with good reason, as this play demonstrates. Shanley uses the powerful tool of insinuation to bring about the feeling that could cripple entire kingdoms: doubt. This play doesn't question the relevance or wisdom of religion. Rather, it tells a story that makes you question the motives and ethics of the people you at meant to trust the most.

This play is great because it talks about many issues, otherwise considered a taboo. Also the ending is usually the case, with this type of situation. Read to find out!

This particular edition, as others have made clear, is insufficient for the reader looking to understand Heraclitus. For those just entering the pre-Socratic realm, it is dangerous. If the reader is unfamiliar or uncomfortable with the ancient world (especially Greece), this edition would constitute a grave error. I cannot attest to the Greek provided in addition to the English (its accuracy as would be judged by scholars in the field), so I limit my remarks to the translation, the Translator's notes, and the introduction.The edition smacks of a trendy-dogmatic approach that is neither honest to the subject nor the ideological disposition at work. The introduction by James Hillman emphasizes a constricted view of the subject from the onset. The reader, already primed by this incompatible perspective, is then given an adaptation. This adaptation-approach is undertaken by the translator to 'freshen up' the original and increase its accessibility. Unfortunately, it merely continues to corrupt Heraclitus' fragile remnants. For example, the first fragment page translates 'Logos' as the Christian Biblical 'The Word'. John the Baptist is centuries removed from Heraclitus, who is quite an outlier even amongst ancient Greek thinkers. It is disrespectful, confusing and ahistorical--taking liberties such as this promotes a total loss of a work's identity, regardless of whether or not John the Baptist shared the literal sentiment. Some of these liberties in translation appear in the notes, but others do not.While there are derivations and flights of fancy, they are all--like the example above--blatantly obvious to those familiar with Greek literature and/or familiar with the spurious offspring of Nietzsche and Heidegger and Carl Jung.Heraclitus, in short, doesn't need sprucing up. The Fragments aren't improved by a psychologist's ruminations. Heraclitus speaks for Heraclitus, without being soiled by an extra-serving of modern baggage/bias.

I was a bit underwhelmed by "Fragments", which is not only a slim volume to start with but also consists of the text in Greek on facing pages. I have no doubt that Heraclitus had a revolutionary way of looking at the world 2500 or so years ago, but now it reads a bit like a watered-down cross between Marcus Aurelius and Ecclesiastes. Of course, this may well be a result of the translation (which has received plenty of criticism from reviewers who appear better informed than me) - I raised my eyebrows when the foreword described this as a "deconstruction", and raised them again when I noted that "character is fate" had become the decidedly less forceful "one's bearing shapes one's fate".Five stars if you really want to brush up on your Ancient Greek, and four stars if you have been waiting for the postmodernist interpretation of Heraclitus (I guess someone out there has been). For the rest of us, three stars. There is still some thought-provoking stuff in here, but if you are looking for an introduction to Stoic thought you are much better off with Meditations (Penguin Classics).

The physical book was good PC quality but the translation is worthless. I do appreciate the greek text though.

The translation of the fragments is a bit too "free". Not as close to the original as it could easily and profitably be. Overall a good effort in making Heraclitus accessible to a wide audience.

This book does contain some interesting verses, some of which seem to reflect Heraclitus' relation to spiritual influences or forms of ancient belief. This book might be great for a Greek scholar, although I doubt they need two editions.I found it to be surprisingly short, which disappointed me. A creative staff would just make it up, and publish edition after edition to make it fleshed out and authentic. I guess that's against the rules. I use this chart in conjunction with a Trigger Point book by Clare Davies,- a tera cane,- and a 36 inch foam roller. The chart helps me find the muscle area I am looking for after identifying the pain origin from the Trigger Point book.There are procedures in the book that can be used to relieve the pain by using your hands and fingers, and the tera cane is very helpful in applying pressure to back areas which you cannot reach yourself. Finally just lying on the foam roller for about 5-8 minutes can take away an amazing amount of discomfort that probably is equal to what you would get from a chiropractor. There is a lot of self help on the internet and a huge amount of positive support for these items so goggle them and look up the reliable information.These items are all available on the Amazon websites if you want to familiarize yourself with these products. I personally am not affiliated with Amazon - I am just a customer who finds Amazon a great place to shop and I pay a lot of attention to the reviews to help me make a buying / or not buying decision.

I love this Trigger Point fold out chart. I think the schools should teach this information from Kindergarten all the way through High School. Maybe it would cut down on obesity and stress issues.

I already know the pain referral patterns pretty well but it was still a little confusing showing people with all the overlapping which points had which patterns. It would have been so easy to make each pattern a different color or even just put a different color around the pattern shape and match it to the text. And because it's laminated I can't color it myself. I also find the patterns a little skimpy. In my own experience and in a few of the books, I've found more areas for some of the points than the chart indicates but since patterns differ from person to person anyway it would be impossible to create a truly accurate map. This is still good to use for showing a client how the points work and where to hunt if you have pain in a certain area but I don't think I would have wasted the money if I had seen it first. I will probably give it away and go back to showing people out of the trigger point work book. (Either The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief, Second Edition or Trigger Point Therapy for Myofascial Pain: The Practice of Informed Touch or even The Muscle and Bone Palpation Manual with Trigger Points, Referral Patterns and Stretching, 1e if you want to go more in depth.)

Great poster. The only issue is that I didn't know I was paying for something that looks like it was made in someone's home. It's two pieces of paper laminated together. The poster is small compared to what I thought and can be folded due to it being to pieces of paper (laminated) instead of one.

This chart is good to have on hand if working with trigger points, but if you are unfamiliar with Trigger points, supplemental text is needed. I suggest the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clair Davies which should be a suggested item on this page.

I had to buy 2 of these because they are more than worth the price! You must get 2 of these charts since they are double sided. Unless you like flipping back and forth just to see both sides.

Informational and great for quick reference. It is double sided though. May be my fault for not catching it in the description, but it is smaller than I was expecting. this is not the big poster you see at the doctors office on the wall.

This is a full-color laminated chart that unfolds to approximately 2 feet in length. On one side is the diagram of the head, the full body, and the legs with trigger-points clearly marked and on the other side the back of the body with similar profiles in full-color with the trigger-points likewise clearly marked. I believe this chart is an excellent and durable product which will prove to be very useful in my study of trigger point therapy.
